Beauty queen killed in violent Venezuela protests

A 22-year-old student from the central city of Valencia died on Wednesday after being shot in the head during an anti-government demonstration, her family said, the fifth victim of unrest in Venezuela. Genesis Carmona, who was studying tourism and was also a local beauty queen, was shot during a demonstration in Valencia on Tuesday, relatives told.

Carmona, a local beauty queen and college student, died of a gunshot wound on Wednesday, the fifth fatality from Venezuela's political unrest, as imprisoned protest leader Leopoldo Lopez urged supporters to keep fighting for the departure of the socialist government. Tensions have risen in Venezuela since Lopez turned himself in to troops on Tuesday after spearheading three weeks of often rowdy protests against President Nicolas Maduro's government.
